If you join the device as a repeater by holding the button for 5 seconds then you can’t power it by just the battery in the future because the battery won’t last more than 24 hours.
I'll probably wait out custom device handlers for ST 2018 and just bite the bullet and upgrade to that, as painful as it will be, and then limp along until someone fills the void here.Screenshot_20210117-004453_SmartThings 1080×2220 193 KB So it's 2018 and the HA space is still a cluster-f*ck. Sadly, I can't even upgrade to the ST 2018 hub because I've read the new app it was released with doesn't support custom device handlers, of which I use quite a few (rboy, for example). Hubitat looks interesting too, but I would also give up a lot of supported functionality I've come to take for granted with ST. I could deal with expensive and super easy, but expensive + complex? I already have issues with ST, but more device support and for a significantly cheaper cost. The final straw was how complicated the set up is. Ridiculous! The whole process could end up costing several hundreds of dollars. I figured HS would want $$ for protocol plugins, not for every single individual device you hook up to it beyond Zwave/zigbee. After spending $200, then searching for phone presence indicator (nil) and MyQ, Sonos and Ecobee thermostat integration, Rachio (all $40 a piece), I called it quits. This may be a bit premature, but I just stuffed HS back in the box and asked for a return. Is there anything like for HS? For a few bucks you get access to a ton of great device handlers and custom devices. Is there good repository for open-source device handlers for HS?
Looks like someone wrote an open-source one, thankfully. Weather station integration with Homeseer. ST fully supports the ecobee with it's own handler and you can use the room sensors as occupancy sensors out of the box. I see a $40 plugin for this, but is there not some default device handler? HS is already insanely expensive and I could see a plugin for a whole protocol, but for a single product like a thermostat? That seems egregious. maybe I haven't found them yet.Įcobee thermostat. I just hate starting from zero when there should at least be a template in place. Just wondering how hard it will be to set up and if there are templates in place like ST has. ST has a bunch of preset scenes like "i'm home, leaving, good night". Is there anything that's dead simple to do and mostly reliable (I know presence is one of those things that's never 100%)? Sure, there are issues with the SM reliability on this, but it works most of the time and setting it up was instantly simple. Phone presence - Surprisingly this looks to be utterly impossibly complicated if it functions at all with HS. That all said, there are a few areas i'm wondering about: There's a lot I don't like about SM in terms of reliability and speed, but at least the device handlers seem to be ahead - at least between these two. I bought a Homeseer hub and have been playing with it a bit, but it really seems overly complicated. The fact that it's cloud based, very unstable and there's no migration app is precluding my upgrade to the newest 2018 version. Been using them since kickstarter days and still have a V1 hub.
